The Firefly 37“ Firebowl

From the Artist: The FireflyStory The Firefly is a deep, large bowl that shields fire from wind within its three petals while providing an inviting space to gaze into the fire. Joining the cut off from the King Isosceles to the form of a Big Bowl O' Zen, the Firefly resembles a large flower bud or seed pod. A study in contrasts, the firefly uses light and dark to create a heightened illusion of depth, a chiaroscuro effect accentuating shadow and flame. Like fireflies captured in a jar on a summer eve, the sparks circle enclosed, glowing stars of your own. Baroque painter Caravaggio used a powder of dried fireflies to prepare photosensitive canvases 200 years before the invention of photography. Images projected onto this magical surface would fluoresce for half an hour, giving him time to lay the broad strokes of a painting using white lead mixed with minerals visible in the dark. His visions have become known as masterpieces of his time what visions might you conceive while gazing into the shifting fire inside your Firefly? Warranty and Return Policy John T. Unger offers a Dynasty Guarantee on all Sculptural Firebowl models available to vendors, meaning they will last many lifetimes. He follows the same return policy as Amazon's A-to-z Guarantee. All artwork is eligible for return and replacement if it arrives damaged or broken or is materially different than represented as described. Sculptural Firebowls may arrive with some marks or scratches due to the fact that they are made from recycled materials. These scratches are considered to add history and character rather than being a defect eligible for return. Firebowl Patina and Finish All bowls are shipped with natural patina. If the rust finish is a concern (particularly around pools or fountains) a high temperature spray paint can be used to paint the bowl on site. High temp spray paint for grills is available at most any hardware store and will work fine on your firebowl. You can also use high temp automotive spray paints designed for engine blocks. These come in a wider color selection and can be found at auto parts stores. Painting the bowl is recommended only once it is on the site where it will be used. It is harder to fix a scratch in paint than it is to paint from scratch, and scratches are likely to occur during shipping. John T. Unger does not have the facilities to paint firebowls before shipping. Should any stains occur after painting, they are easy to remove with household cleansers designed to remove rust such as CLR. Firebowl Safety If you plan to use your firebowl on a wooden or plastic lumber deck, you MUST place a heat shielding pad, firebrick or concrete paver under the base. The firebowl does not transfer enough heat to set fire to a deck, but the base gets hot enough to brand marks into the wood. The best way to insulate a deck when using a gas firebowl is to make a small square of firebrick to set the bowl on. This allows you to easily run gas from below without having to drill or cut holes in a one-piece barrier. Other options include using a concrete paver (like a round stepping stone) or a slab of stone. Chidren and pets should be closely supervised around the firebowls. The steel does get hot when a fire is in use and the bowl can be sharp when handled without work gloves. Allow firebowls to cool for at least several hours before touching the steel. Abraham Lincoln was known to read Euclid's Geometry by candlelight, convinced its mathematical proofs would quicken his logic and oratory in the courtroom. The King Isosceles firebowl is a modernist homage to this classical approach to eloquence, and my hope is that it will inspire your stories told round the blaze.
